Do you know that we spend around 90 minutes per day on our mobile?

Are your communication supports mobile friendly?

Think mobile, think nomad!

Do you know that we spend around 90 minutes per day on our mobile? Are your communication supports mobile friendly?

Yes, you read right. In average, we spend around 90 minutes per day on our mobile, which per year means around 23 days.

Phones have long stopped being just a way to call other people. Now, not only do we call, but also text, send instant messages with apps as WhatsApp, Viber or Messenger and, more important, communicate with the whole world thanks to social media, sharing around 3.2 billion images per day…

But this is not all the things we do on our phones. We surf the web, googling all the questions we have to find answers to them. We shop online, we do business online. Our future clients and partners are online.

According to a recent article published on Brandwatch,Google processes around 10 billion research queries per month, 60% of them coming from mobile devices…

Thus, the importance not to be just online but also to be mobile friendly.

Our lifestyle becomes more and more mobile, nomad. We do most of the things on the spot, instantly. A question? Something to check: mails, social profiles? Something to post? We don’t wait anymore to be in front of our desktop to update our blogs, websites or social media. We do it on the go, as long as we have an Internet connection.

Businesses have to adapt to this new lifestyle in order to gain and retain clients. How many times did I leave a website just because it wasn’t mobile friendly, the loading process was too slow, the display was too bad and I couldn’t read properly the information on my mobile screen… If it happens to me, I guess it also happens to you, to your friends, to the friends of your friends… In other words, to your potential clients.

Nowadays, most of platforms and applications have made it easy to create a mobile version of your communication supports.

If you use MailChimp for your mailing campaigns, MailChimp automatically create a mobile version of it. You don’t even have to think about it or how it will show up on mobile device screens.

And if you use Wix to create your website, Wix also automatically creates a mobile version of your site. You need to check though how it looks like to check that every element has been correctly “mobile translated” and you can edit to make it look the way you want it to be.

What are the points to check to make your website and mailing campaigns look stunning on mobile devices?

  • Design

Check that your website or newsletter design is responsive, that is to say shows well, not matter the size of the screen.

  • Readibility

Mobile screens are small and we can be tempted to put small texts to have a shorter page with the same quantity of information as on a desktop version…

As I just wrote, mobile screens are small, meaning that the smaller the font will be the more difficult it will be to read the text. And if we can’t read a text, we just leave the website or close the mail.

As an advice, your font size for mobile shouldn’t be less than 12pt.

The same applies to your buttons or call to actions. Make them big enough so that your visitor can easily click on it on his screen.

As a bonus, add a “up page” option, so that your visitor can easily go back to the beginning of the page after having scrolling down.

  • Images

Optimize your images so that they, first, look stunning on your mobile version, but also so that they don’t slow down the loading process.

If the website loading process it too long, chances are that people will leave before reading.

To give you an idea, try to keep your image size lower than 1 MB.

Also, limit the quantity of images on the page for your mobile version to the strict minimum. Put only images that illustrate your point or add added value to your content, depending on your activity sector of course. The less images on your mobile version, the faster the page will load, the higher your conversion rate will be.

Once you’ve checked these points and your communication supports are mobile optimized, you are ready to work on your SEO, or Search Engine Optimisation.

But this will be the subject of another post…

Stay tuned!
