Ultra violet elected color of 2018 by Pantone. What do you need to know about this color and

As every year, the color experts at Pantone elect the Color of the Year. For 2018, they chose Ultra Violet.

What are the meanings of this color and how can you use it, this is the subject of my today post.



Some words about Pantone

The Pantone Color Institute is a consulting and colors forecasting service inside Pantone. It aims at guiding brands and designers in their choice of color combinations and recommendations based on the color power, psychology and emotion. For the Pantone Color Institute expects, colors are a way to inspire and influence.


In order to define which color will be the emblem of the year, the Pantone experts carefully study and research trends in the design, film, food, fashion, art and entertainment industries. They also look in materials, travels, sports and technology sectors, setting the trends and directions in the creative world.

Beyond trends, the color chosen by Pantone experts is meant to symbolize what the world needs more.



Ultra Violet

For 2018, Ultra Violet has been chosen as color of the year.

This color is a combination of blue and purple and is “inventive and imaginative, lighting the way to what is yet to come”.


According to Pantone’s explanation, Ultra Violet color “communicates originality, ingenuity and visionary thinking that points us toward the future.”.

It reminds the mysteries of the Universe, the unknown and the discoveries to come.

A choice full of esoteric meanings and hopes for 2018 to be a better year than 2017...



About the purple color

Let’s talk about the signification of the purple color, the color at the basis of Ultra Violet.

Purple combines the stability of the blue and the energy of the red, two colors with opposite yet complementary messages.


Thus, this color has two main uses.
